What is MOP?
Minimum Occupation Period is the time you must live in your HDB before you can sell it on the open market or rent the entire flat. Standard MOP is 5 years from key collection.

PLH Flats — 10 Years
Prime Location Housing (PLH) flats in central areas have a 10-year MOP. They also have restrictions on subletting and resale subsidies must be returned.

After MOP — Your Options
Once MOP is reached, you can sell your HDB on the open market, rent out the entire flat, or upgrade to a private property while keeping your HDB (check ABSD rules).

The best time to plan your upgrade is 6–12 months before MOP. Viewing, securing a loan, and exercising an OTP all take time — don't wait until MOP day.
